Transfer to Select
Child in Placement
The process is as described above, except, to ensure the welfare needs of any child in placement remain of primary consideration, both the local Authority and your existing agency will have to be informed of your intention to transfer.
The local Authority will arrange a meeting ( the transfer protocol meeting ) with your existing agency , ourselves, their representatives, the Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) concerned and other important people in the children’s lives. The meeting will consider if at all, the traser would impact on the child’s best interest, and any implications for the child’s care.
No Child in Placement
If you don’t have a child in placement, the process is fairly straightforward, which we will support and guide you through.
- You must give your existing agency 28 days’ notice in writing that you wish to resign and at the same time make a formal application with us to foster.
- We will visit you at home to look at any issues with you and make a decision to progress your application. You will then have to be reassessed by us, including obtaining your last annual review and a reference from your existing agency.
- We will review your assessment portfolio with you to assess your skills, knowledge and experience, to identify any training you require and present this information to our Panel for approval.
Transferring with Us
Approved Foster Carers choose to transfer from one agency to another for various reasons. As with other professions, sometimes the carer feels ‘stuck’ and their relationship with their existing agency gets stale. Other Carers cite reasons for wanting to move such as:
- Feeling unsupported
- Lack of respect and appreciation for their role
- Low economic rewards
- Poor training and professional development opportunities
